Olivas began painting New Mexican-style Santos after several trips
to the old churches, capillas, and missions of New Mexico where he fell
in love with the old paintings of the Santos created by New Mexican artists
of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries. After much experimentation, his
work gained admission into the Spanish Colonial Arts Society in Santa
Fe. He has won awards at Spanish Market and the New Mexico State Fair.
His work is in permanent collections of the Denver Museum of Art, the
Regis Museum, and the Juan Diego High School Collection in Salt Lake City,
Utah. He exhibits in several galleries and museums throughout the Southwest. |
